Who doesn’t love a good beauty hack? Anything to save a bit of time in the morning, and give us that crucial extra time in bed without needing to have to hit the snooze button! If you’re anything like me, you’re probably sitting at your screen now grinning at this, because you know exactly how it feels. So I’ve rounded up some of the best beauty hacks that I know of, that are SO simple it’ll leave you wondering why you didn’t think of it before.
❤ DIY Gel Eyeliner This one is super simple, and literally just requires a lighter, or matchstick and your favourite eyeliner. This is perfect if you have run out of your gel eyeliner, or can’t splurge out on a good one. Hold the eyeliner pencil under a flame for about 10 seconds – anything more and you’re eyeliner will be dripping on the floor! Eek! Let it cool down, for at least 30 seconds. This is important, and fairly obvious, but you do not want to put piping hot eyeliner anywhere near your eye. Then just use the eyeliner as usual. What you should find is that the eyeliner is much darker, and it produces a much cleaner line, with a slight smudge for that smokey look.
❤ Baby Powder = Power Lashes I am way too scared to even try out false eyelashes as the thought of using eyelash glue rings alarm bells! Instead I use some baby powder on a cotton swab, brush this against my eyelashes, before applying mascara. Then add a coat of mascara, and your eyelashes will appear thicker and longer. Say NO to false eyelashes.
❤ The Cat Eye If you’re just starting out or trying to perfect your cat eye, add some post it note tabs or use a credit card diagonally along your eyelid. Any excess eyeliner that is not within the cat eye line will be picked up and removed from that little barrier. Perfectly straight cat eye lines every-time!
❤ The Wrong Shade If you accidentally purchase the wrong shade of foundation, and you can’t take it back to the shop to return it, do not throw it out! Instead either use it as a concealer (if a lighter shade), foundation to contour with (if a darker shade), or mix it up with some moisturiser to lighten the colour up slightly. There are so many uses for foundation, even if you aren’t going to use it as a base colour.
❤ Getting The Most From Your Mascara It’s always a pain when your mascara runs out and you have no spares. Please, just don’t ever pump the mascara bottle, always swirl it. Pumping the bottle not only pushes the product further down the tube, but also adds oxygen into the tube. If you do find that you have run out, use some contact lens solution, to get that last bit of mascara out. Add a few drops to your mascara and swirl it around the tube, you’ll have enough mascara left for another few swipes against those lashes.
❤ Bobby Pin Problems I don’t know any girl who doesn’t own hundreds of bobby pins. No matter how many we buy they just seem to disappear into thin air! Mine seem to do exactly the same when they are holding together a hair-style that I have oh so carefully crafted. Now by this I am not being literal! But to keep them in your hair, spray some hairspray directly onto the pin before inserting into your hair. This will keep them secure and in place.
