Click N Curl | My Hair Nightmare

Click N Curl

For as long as I have known, I have struggled to get my hair to have any sort of volume to it. I’ve endlessly flicked through magazines at celebrities and models with gorgeous bouncy curls, and hair that was so full of volume. All in all, my hair stays straight. Plain, standard, straight. Don’t get me wrong, there’s nothing wrong with having naturally straight hair, if that’s the look you want. But me, I’ve always experimented with my hair and tried out new hairstyles. So when Hair & Whiskers offered me their Click N Curl* barrels to try out, I jumped at the chance . Easily achievable, bouncy, loose flowing curls with the added volume – what did I have to lose? Little did I know, it was going to be at a big cost to my locks

Now this isn’t going to be a purely negative post about my experience with Click N Curl, I must admit there were some factors of the product that I did like. The packaging, for example, sleek black boxes with the Hair & Whiskers logo embossed in silver metallic font. It’s something that you would expect from a premium brand, and Hair & Whiskers hit the nail on the head here with presentation.

The Click n Curl products come with detachable handles, which click onto the individual rollers for your hair. The rollers themselves come in three difference sizes, all of which are included within the full set, for £44.99. So the first set you get are:

Large – for bigger curls, which they have recommended is best for long hair,
Medium – for hair that is just longer than shoulder length, and finally,
Small – For hair above shoulder length.

To use Click N Curl, the brush barrel needs to be used to roll onto the hair, and then detached leaving it to sit at the crown of your hair. The problem I had with the barrels was that they were just not sitting on my hair properly. Every time I detached the barrel, it would either come apart, fall off or not sit straight. Perhaps Hair & Whiskers could have recommended the use of, or provided, hair grips around the roller to keep it in place. Though, this may have been because my hair is quite thick, if this was the case the packaging should really have stated that it was not suitable for thick hair.

Admittedly, I did receive the Click N Curl set a few months back now, but this same problem has happened each time I used the product. I did not want to post a review after just using the product for a few times, as it may have taken a while to get used to using it. However, I found that the promises of bouncy, loose curls were not met, and my hair was left limp and back to the straight hair it always is. I was, though, determined not to give up using Click N Curl as I had seen many good reviews about the product, and enviously clicked through photos on Twitter of fellow bloggers having luck using it. I wish I had actually stopped myself before another attempt. This is where the nightmare began.

Using the medium sized rollers, as I decided to try it with shorter layers on my hair, and not such a thick section, I followed the instructions to the letter. Detaching the roller, applying heat, waiting for it to cool, and to my horror the roller refused to part off. For someone who has been growing their hair for years, spending hour after hour maintaining my hair, being worried was an understatement. No matter how carefully I tried to ease the roller off my hair it just would not budge! So after an hours of tears, and hair pulling, I finally managed to get the roller off my hair, along with a big clump of my hair. This is really not what I was expecting when I wanted the rollers to sit on my hair without moving!

I am really disappointed with this product and don’t think I’ll be using Click N Curl rollers again.

I truly hope no-one else has had the same experience as I have had with these rollers. I think I might leave my hair be for a while now.
