Gilgamesh London | Restaurant Review

Gilgamesh

If you follow me on Twitter you would have seen that I was out celebrating on Saturday Evening because of results that I had received, for working towards a professional qualification. Completely different to that of blogging though, that’s a different side of my life. To celebrate on Saturday, Ankit (my fiancé) and I went to Gilgamesh London a top restaurant in the heart of Camden, London that offers a unique selection of exotic signature Pan-Asian dishes. Gilgamesh use China, Japan and South East Asia as inspiration for many of their dishes. Booking our table in the private dining area, we were in an amazing restaurant that boasted an impressive 40ft high ceiling and floor-to-ceiling glass windows, which creates the most perfect ambience for dining.

Gilgamesh London is an award-winning internationally famous restaurant that has been around in Camden for around 9 years now. It’s one that I’ve always walked past when roaming around Camden Lock and the Stables Market but never gone in. No reason in particular for it, but now I had an excuse to get a table booked and finally experience the Pan-Asian restaurant cuisine. Gilgamesh London isn’t just a restaurant, it is home to multiple bar and lounge areas and a newly built champagne bar! There were so many choices of starters, mains and dim sum to choose from on the menu that Ankit and I both went for a set menu of Gilgamesh favourites. This is where indecisive Vanisha comes out! Heading up towards the restaurant, which was easier to find than I thought it would be, we were greeted by a mammoth escalator – similar to that which you would get if you imagined entering a whole different world! And that’s exactly what it seemed like because the décor was out of this world. It was so beautiful. Everything was carved out and fitting with the Asian theme. A large fountain located at the entrance and a swing seat next to the front of house desk, which I imagine is perfect for those waiting to get seated. Luckily when Ankit and I arrived there wasn’t a queue of people waiting to be seated. I guess that’s where my love for early dinners is advantageous.

>We were immediately directed towards the private dining area. Which looked in stark contrast to the main dining area itself. There were drapes of cloth, much like a scene from the castle in Aladdin. Anyone who knows me knows I was in heaven at this point – my ever growing obsession with Aladdin! The seating was much like a lounge area, with sofa style seating, which helps you feel relaxed and comfortable whilst dining. Ankit and I went for passion-fruit and peach champagne cocktails as pre-drink for dinner. Our starters were Crispy Squid, Prawn Dumplings, Chicken Gyozas and Scallop Dumplings which we ordered as additional items from the main menu as we were both super hungry, and wanted to give a few more items a go. Our mains included Beef Bulgogi, which is slow roasted ribs with a bulgogi sauce, Malaysian Seafood Jungle Curry, this was honestly the best take on the traditional green curry I’ve EVER had. Who would have ever thought to have a concoction of seafood blended together perfectly with vegetables, and it included butter-nut squash! Both dishes were served with generous servings of Jasmine Rice. Dessert was just as tasty as Ankit and I both had the passion fruit crème brulee, which had a scoop of fresh sorbet to accompany.

The service cannot be faulted as we were tended to by our own waiter, with other waitresses and waiters ready and waiting to help you and tend to your table. Staff were friendly and attentive, without being too over bearing. I would recommend Gilgamesh London to anyone who is looking for somewhere special to celebrate. It’s location in the heart of Camden makes it easily accessible to other bars and clubs for after parties, or you can head to the champagne bar situated within the restaurant.

Have you ever been to Gilgamesh London, or similar restaurants?
