Birchbox | October Review

Birchbox october

Birchbox seem to be the most versatile beauty box out there at the moment. Often they offer subscribers the choice as to what they want in their box, and also the type of box that subscribers want. This month, for October they have offered subscribers either the choice to have a “Back to Basics” box, or a box from the Stylist Editor. For my Birchbox October Review I really wanted to receive and review the Stylist box, however, for some reason, I received the Back to Basics box. Which honestly, I was a bit confused about as I put through my box request as soon as the options came out – even obtaining a confirmation email of my request.

Saying that, I did really enjoy using the samples within the Back To Basics box, and actually am happy that there was a mix-up after-all. The box was made to reset, refresh and refuel beauty regimes just in time for Christmas and New Years parties.  So, what’s in the box?

Eyeko Fat Liquid Eye liner ; I’ve heard a lot about Eyeko recently, and have wanted to try their eye liner for a while now, and was actually thinking of buying this eye liner any ways. Although I’ve been using gel eye liner a lot, I do like the way liquid eye liner is thick and glides along easily along the eyelid. The chubbiness of the eye liner makes it a perfect must-have when wanting to create a thick Marilyn Monroe cat-eye.
The promises of the eye liner are real, it is smudge proof, a very thick dark black in colour, and very intense making your eyes the focal point on your face. The eye liner works like a pen and is easy to use when tracing along the upper lash line.

❤ Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat ; Penetrating through nail polish, the Seche Vite polish is a clear top coat. I literally used this a few days ago and didn’t really believe the hype behind how fast this tap coat dries, but was I wrong. It only took 20 seconds for this to dry. Say no more to flapping your hands around like a bird trying to get your nails to dry, or waiting 30 minutes just for one coat to dry – this product is worth the hype it’s got.
It has a patented formula, which leaves the colour long and durable for the entirety of your manicure, your nails will look fresh day after day.

❤  Bioderma Sensibio ; It was a cute little bottle sample that this was given in, which definitely goes a long way even when using the smallest amount. It is primarily used for normal to dry skin, though, doesn’t state anything for combination skin – which is my skin type. It’s made for people who suffer from skin irritation or mild redness on the skin.
There’s actually been a lot of talk of late of micellar water, what with the Garnier cleansing water which has recently become really popular with beauty bloggers as a makeup remover. But does anyone really know what the difference is between micellar water and just normal make-up remover? It seems as though this word has just cropped out fresh from the labs! Really, it’s all in the name, it’s pretty much entirely made up of H2O with benefits being that it is fragrance, alcohol and paraben free – so you know what you are using is a lot better for your skin than the standard makeup removers you can get.
I found this make-up remover to be sensitive on my skin, and even if you did have combination skin, it’s great for thoroughly removing make-up and giving you a refreshed feeling – similar to that as if you were splashing your face with cool water.
All in all a great little product, and I think it’s time to ditch the usual make-up remover and replace it with this cleansing water.

❤  Regenerate Enamel Science Advanced Toothpaste ; I quite like this tooth past and can really see the difference it is making when brushing my teeth. Unlike the usual Colgate and Aqua-fresh you can really feel this toothpaste doing the work, and it leaves a slight minty fresh taste in your mouth – oh so clean. Though, if I’m honest, I do think this product is extortionately priced. At an RRP of £10 (!) I don’t think I will be purchasing this toothpaste, and will happily stick to Colgate.
The toothpaste however, would be suitable for anyone who drinks a lot of fizzy drinks and are conscious on the effects this is having on the teeth. For savvy-shoppers like me, however, I would wait until this is on offer.

Beaver Professional Hydro Nutritive Moisturising Shampoo and Conditioner ; Personally I think Birchbox could have added a small bottle of this, as opposed to just a sachet. My hair is quite long and I don’t think I would have been able to provide an honest review on this, so I ended up giving this away.

I really enjoyed using the Back To Basics samples, and there were a few brands that I would 100% buy products from again. It was nice to discover some new brands that I haven’t tried before, and also them being brands that I can use for everyday products. What were your thoughts on this month’s box?
