The Secrets to being healthy and happy

Picture this: the sun is beaming down against your hair, with a slight brush of wind against your skin, you’re lying on white golden sand and there’s just complete peacefulness. In reality, our daily lives are potentially a stark contrast to this, however as long as learning how to reduce stress, there are just a few select secrets to being healthy and happy in our daily lives. Incorporate these into your day-to-day schedule and you’re likely to see a huge difference to your outlook to life.

Living a healthy and happy life is something that most of us want, but we don’t all know how easy it is, and it really can be with just a few changes. There’s literally nothing better than waking up in the morning and just feeling thankful for everything you have in life, and everything you have achieved. So put a plan in place, incorporate these simple little gems into your lifestyle, and reap the rewards.

Try meditation : I recently started going to body-balance classes at my local health club. I’m someone who had never been to a gym class before, but I thought I would take the plunge and take myself out of my comfort zone. If your local healthy club or gym does offer body-balance classes, I would highly recommend getting yourself booked onto a class.

Body balance incorporates Yoga, Tai Chi and Pilates in one class, which really does help you focus on yourself, your body and just being in the moment. Tai Chi also helps you become more aware of directing your breath and energy to areas of your body.

The Secrets to being healthy and happy

Turn off electronics : We all know the nightly routine, of getting into bed and scrolling through Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and sometimes even mobile phone games. Gone are the days where we read a chapter or two from a book.

iPhone even recently bought out a new update on their phones which incorporates a “night time mode” to help you sleep by using hues or orange, and toning down the back-light.

Remove your phone from your night-time routine, and put it aside long before you go to bed. Your mind will stop thinking and clocking through thoughts if you do this.

Drink lots of water : I’ve said it time and time again, there are so many ways to help increase your water intake. Drinking more water can help you stay focused throughout the day, and keep you fresh.

Reflect on your day : I’ve found that my days just keep passing ever so quickly, and I really feel like I need a pause button in life I go from work, to the gym, then sleep – and this just gets repeated day after day until the weekend.

Each day you spend a good 15 minutes reflecting on your day, and self-evaluate on what you have achieved, what you want to achieve and what you could have done better. Don’t criticise yourself or put anything down, just evaluate what you have done throughout the day.

Clean your work space : Sometimes cleaning, as much as some of us may hate it, can be therapeutic. As they say, tidy desk, tidy mind. Keeping a clean work area can not only help you focus, but it can also make you feel as though you don’t actually have as much on your work-load.
