Work It Out | Polar FT4 Review

Polar FT4

Ever since I joined the gym I have always been curious of that little monitor on each machine counting how many calories are burnt on each work out. I’ve seen it fluctuate so much; some machines even going so far as to indicate that I’ve burnt almost a thousand calories in a half an hour workout. To me, that simply could not be correct as there are so many other factors that go into how many calories you burn. Machines at the gym don’t have such functions to be as precise as I had hoped. Since starting working out from home (you can catch up with my Kayla Itsines home circuit workouts HERE I’ve wanted to see exactly how hard I’ve been pushing myself, and also the vital figure of how many calories I’ve burnt. This is where the Polar FT4 Heart Rate Monitor can be introduced nicely. The Polar FT4 Heart Rate Monitor is a perfect addition to any gym-goers gym kit. It’s so simplistic and easy to use, and great for those who don’t want all the technicalities behind their workout. Compared to others on the market the >Polar FT4 Heart Rate Monitor allows users to monitor how many calories they are burning during a workout, but also their pinnacle heart rate zone, and how long you have been in that zone. We’ve all seen the chart on most cardio machines that indicate where your heart rate needs to be in order to stay in the “fat burning” zone, and the Polar FT4 gives you the same information just personalised. By persoanlised I mean according to your height, weight, age, gender and lastly to the workout that you are doing. This is perfect for those who either want to improve their fitness levels, by pushing themselves to sustain that heart rate for longer, or for those looking to maintain their current fitness level.

When you purchase the heart rate monitor you get the monitor itself, which is clipped onto the chest band. For us ladies this will sit comfortably just above your sports bar chest strap. Ladies, I much prefer having my heart rate monitor here as I want it to stay in place. You also get the strap watch which syncs with the heart rate monitor, of course I got mine in pink! The watch is great as it can also be used as an everyday watch for time. I have seen so many people on the tube with their Polar watches being used for everyday use.

The watch can also store personal training file data for up to 10 previous workouts, which is great if you want to compare how you are doing each time you work out. The only downside with the FT4 is that you don’t have the training file download option, like you would with the FT7. I didn’t find this a problem though as I can just keep this manually in a diary. The FT4 can literally be used for any type of workout, including swimming – yes it’s waterproof!

The Polar FT4 Heart Rate Monitor retails at £74.50 and comes in a range of great colours!

Why don’t you try training smarter with a Polar watch and heart rate monitor. Have you tried other heart rate monitors that are similar?
