Stay healthy the lazy way

Being healthy is something that should really come naturally to us, but with hundreds of fast food chains open at our convenience sometimes it’s a bit difficult to stay on the wagon. Considering it’s not only fast food chains that are opening, there also seems to have been an influx in waffle and pancake houses. Our everyday lives also seem to have taken over our schedules, with many of us working longer hours, and using excuse after excuse not to go to the gym. Quick snacks and energy drinks have seem a shot incline in sales, with a number of us grabbing snack bars as opposed to some chopped fruit. For those of you that do have a hard time juggling things, here’s a quick fire list of how you can stay healthy the lazy way.

Frozen fruit on the go

You never know when you will need a quick snack on the go, so instead of going for peanuts or crisps, keep a tupperware tub of frozen berries and fruit. Sometimes frozen fruit is easier to carry around and keep in your bag, than buying fresh fruit from shops. Fresh fruit is also prone to going off quicker, whereas when they are frozen, they last much longer.

Frozen fruit can also be added to a number of other snacks, such as yoghurt or oatmeal, which is still remaining healthy whilst adding a bit of depth to your meal.

 Watch programmes whilst working out

There are so many great shows out there at the moment, from Suits, Pretty Little Liars, American Horror Story (one of my fall time favourites), and the new season of The Big Bang Theory. It’s a great way to get a work-out in, whilst watching one of your favourite programmes. Either do some star jumps, march on the spot, or if your lucky enough to have a few bits of gym equipment at home use them to your advantage.

Have your gym clothes ready when you wake up

Sometimes it’s easier to have your gym clothes ready and almost waiting for you when you wake up. It saves you having to rummage through your wardrobe every time you want to go and workout. Trust me I know all about this. Even that is just enough to de-motivate me from working out.

Stock up on health items instead of unhealthy ones

You’re more likely to grab healthier snacks rather than unhealthy snacks if they are stocked up in your cupboards. Yes a bit of an obvious one I know, and as much as we all say that most of us have the willpower, it sometimes is difficult to stick to this. What I do is I have a drawer specifically for junk type food – such as chocolate, and the rest of my kitchen is full of healthy, nutritional foods.

 Portion control

Fill your plate up with vegetables, even if these need to be frozen. You can fill up the rest of the bowl with proteins and good fat, but just make sure you focus on eating the vegetables first. By doing this, you will be fuller from the vegetables and may not have room to snack on sweets and anything unhealthy.

I’ve lived by these tips to stay healthy the lazy way, and have seen my health remain at it’s peak.
