Travel Tips for Sydney, Australia*

Sydney in Australia regularly ranks as one of the best cities in the world to visit, due to its beautiful setting, a backdrop featuring two of the world’s (and Australia’s) most iconic landmarks; the Opera House and the Sydney Harbour Bridge really are showstoppers. Sydney, in New South Wales, is on the East coast of the country, and the location of the city does play a large part in the city’s appeal. There are stunning beaches close by, and you are not far at all from the central business district (CBD) of the city too, so is often a choice for people looking to move or emigrate. If you think about it, are there really that many cities that surrounded by over 100 beaches, hidden coves in the harbour, snorkelling spots, and good surfing?

Sydney really is a destination to add to your bucket list; have you ever been before? There is more than beaches and surf to enjoy too, such as a renowned dining scene, glitzy and glam bars, and the natural beauty of the two national parks that straddle the city. So with all of that in mind, here are some of the things that will help you make a trip to Sydney much easier. Get it booked!

WHEN TO VISIT?

The Australian summer is the time that brings the most crowds, because of the beautiful weather that is basically guaranteed. So if you want the best weather, mid-December to February is the time, though things like the beaches will be packed. There are lots of things going on in the summertime, though, such as the New Year fireworks in Sydney, The Sydney Festival in January, plus Australia Day and all of the celebrations that come along with that. In the winter months, there are still plenty of things that you can do; the weather may be a little less predictable.

LIKE A LOCAL

When you visit somewhere new, one of the best ways to see a place is by living like the locals do. In London, do you think the residents shop on Oxford Street for their regular shopping? No. The goes in Sydney. There is a Victorian-era shopping arcade that is a great place for finding quality Australian designs of things, from jewellery to skincare. You could also visit some of the boutiques too. The Broadway area of Sydney is a great spot to visit too, and you could even find the leading broadway dentist if you’re after a treatment or need emergency care when you’re there. Living like the locals do really helps you to experience things in a more ‘real’ way.

TRAVEL

If you plan to travel around in Sydney, then there are ferries, trains, and buses that you can make use of. But to make it simpler, make sure that you get an Opal Card ahead of time, as they can be used on all. It is also a good idea to get an app like Uber or the Tripview app, if you want to either book a cab, or check real-time bus schedules on the latter. Things don’t always run like clockwork so it is a good idea to have something to check.
